Abstract Photography as a Form of Art

November 24, 2014 by Mary Buck

Creative Photography Self-Assignment

ReflectionsIf you are looking for an interesting and creative photography project try capturing reflections as an abstract photo self-assignment. The best reflections in lakes, oceans, or ponds are found on cloudy days or around sunset. Look for hues and abstract shapes. I was struck by the pink hues in the image on the left.  It is a reflection of palm trees at Ocean Beach in San Diego and was taken right at sunset. Reflections  Try changing the orientation of the image and see what happens. Which one do you prefer?  It is difficult to tell just what this image is a reflection of which adds to its intrigue. Painters have been creating abstract photography for years, so why not photographers.  Next time you need a photography fix, go out to a local pond or lake and see what is looming in the reflections. You may find more than what you are looking for.  Make it a time to reflect.  Abstract photography as a form of art can be a new passion for you.
