I am seeing a lot of sun flare lately in photos, especially in wedding and high school senior photography. When I learned photography back in the 70’s sun flare was a bad thing. A picture with sun flare showed that you did not know what you were doing and was a sign of being an amateur. Well, fast track to 2014 and it is now a sign of deliberate artistic element added to portraits. I swore I would never succumb to such a deliberate act, but I have changed with the times. I incorporate one or two sun flares in most of my outdoor sessions these days. Below is one of the images I really like using sun flare in a high school senior portrait. What do you think about sun flare?
